McMurphy has changed the ward in many ways at the same time he doesnt sound like hes selfish but if you think about it hes taking the money from everyone on the ward. Hes made the ward change and be what they are now standing up for themselves and everything...It sounds like its for the better...
McMurphy seems bothered by the others submissive attitude towards Nurse Ratched. I believe that he is selffish and does care about taking care of himself but i also believe that he cares about the interest of the other patients.
One of the things I really like about this book is how attached you get to the characters - esp. McMurphy, Chief, Billy, and, to an extent, Harding. I also REALLY hate the Big Nurse, and I become very upset at society in general for putting so much pressure on individuals to fit certain molds (and yes, I am guilty of that, too). I hope you enjoyed reading the book as much as I always do...
I agree this book makes it very hard not to get attached. I love Billy i was so sad when he killed himself. I watched the movie a couple of years ago and it doesnt even compare to the emotions i have got through reading this book. I really enjoyed this and i dont always like the books we re ad in school.
This book was one of the few that i liked that we have read. I agree with Katie about not always liking them but, i seemed to like the happy ending for Cheif he made it through the whole time he was there and got out of the ward. The Big Nurse deserved to get treated badly because of everything that she has done to the ward and the black boys, they seem to like the rectal thermometer and just jabbing that in "places".
