What techniques does Oscar Wilde use to create his satirical tone throughout the play? If you were writing your own satire today, what would you poke fun at in our society?
Oscar Wilde picks on marriage a lot and the fact that many of the characters have known someone for this long and just go out and say I love you for dating them for 3 days. There's so many different things in society that are just stupid for people to do. It's not one thing to go a pick at theres so many things. You have all these movies that pick on things and people, and then you have movies like Jackass, that just do stupid stuff for others entertainment, yes granted there making money off of these things but their hurting themselves so someone will laugh at them. In our society theres not just stupid things people do, its just things they have to do mostly to be amuzed. Theres a major issue in or town and thats the teen pregnancy rate, yes not something to laugh and poke at but it needs to be poked at to stop! People always say that this town is boring and many times nobody ever leaves here and does great things, but thats all the more reason to make something of ourselves and prove it doesnt matter where you come from or what you have done anything is possiable. Instead people are proving others right with there theories. Some just don't care about what matters most. Like school, theres so many students in our school who just have the "I don't care" attitude. As bad as that sounds I would poke at the people who decided to do nothing with their lives when we come back for our 10 year reunion and they all regret doing nothing with their lives, and they see what they could have done. Fort Plain is a very good school mostly about unity coming together to help everything, if you were to get the chance to go to a different school and see what the work is like you will realize in many schools the teachers don't care. Here they actually do care and people don't take the advantage and end up regreting a lot. I'm not a bad person for wanting to poke at people who just don't care I'm just sick of hearing about how so many people are failing and they know that they could do the work if one person can the whole class can. Maybe poking at them will make them actually do something and prove me wrong. That's mostly what it's about. Yes, I know you don't have to prove anything to anyone but you do have to do something with your life, make money have a job support a family someday. Everything starts with doing what your suppose to in school and graduating maybe going to college( though it helps a lot with better jobs) and getting a good steady job you like. Nothing happens in the matter of a day it takes time and thats what some don't realize either you can't just go do something and expect a huge change in one day and thats all you have to do. Some people really need to grow up as well and look at their lives and make sure their doing the right thing.
Wow - you point out some interesting points in your post. I am pleased that you realize how important your education is. It is the key to unlocking your future, and only you can determine what your future will be. I wonder what the best course of action would be to get ALL kids to realize how much they are missing out on by having such lackadaisical attitudes. The apathy is frightening; some of these people will be responsible for caring for me in my old age (lol). I wonder if adults felt that way when I was a kid... Thanks for posting!
Well it always seems like students in our school don’t care what happens to them once they graduate. Were always being frowned on by other schools and because we don’t have the best at everything or were not the best at everything. Like the school that has big time sports and such yes we have our baseball team but there are other schools that are out there winning football champion ships and such. It would be a lot of fun to have a football team around here. We do have a lot of smart people in our school but they don’t apply themselves they feel like they don’t need to. I don't like hearing people saying that there was a low graduating class when there could be more. Sometimes students are worried about things that don’t even matter right now. And that’s how they feel it’s more important and just don’t care about school and that’s when they start failing.
