It's Not About the Bike - Week One

Christopher Reeve once stated, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Do you agree with his definition? Why or why not? Apply this quote to the novel and/or to your own life and experiences.

theres so many different ways to describe a hero theres really not one way to say something about a hero. they tend to have many traits or many things about them that makes them like that! i agree only half though because there could be more than just that.

Is there another definition of hero that is more encompassing or more clear? Is there a specific person you would classify as a hero? Why?

When i first thought of a "Hero" i thought about someone from a movie or a fake person that someone wants to be like. I thought of a Hero somewhat like a role modle that someone would look up to and want to be like.

After talking about it in class and reading the book my look of a Hero changed. In class people were saying that people like Police or firefighters were heros to them.I myself didn't at first think a hero as someone like that but now i do.

Reading the book about Lance Armstrong makes me almost think of him as a hero. Hes done so much with his life and he is so good at what he does and hes dedicated to it. It makes me amazed and also jealous because how successful he is at a very young age. I would have never thought that someone around my age could compete and be so good at something compared to everyone else who has been doing it for alot longer than he has.

Throughout all of this im still not sure exactly what a "Hero" is. It really depends on the persons own point of view and how he/she thinks. To me now a "Hero" can still be a made up/pretend person, but it can also be a real life person who has a great influence on other people. A person that sets goals and makes sure they do them, a person who does whatever he/she can do to overcome whatever they need to do,someone who puts whatever they need to on the line to make something else happen to benefit someone else..or even themselves.

A person you
know but don't

Lance doesnt want to be considered a hero thats how he starts off the book. yes, hes made it very far being that he beat something deadly. Something like cancer can make someone so much stronger and thats what Lance did he beat something he knew wasn't going to take his life.
Anyone can be successful at anything whatever the age they may be. Its just about being dedicated like Lance was and still is. You be suprised how far people go. Celeberties dont start off from birth they become that. They become who they are.

"There's A Reason Why I Don't Have Any Heroes, And That Is Because Once You Label Someone As A Hero It's Highly Probable That They Will Let You Down.
I'm Not Saying Not To Have Heroes; I'm Just Saying I Don't.
Until I Find Someone "Perfect" (And We Should Know I Hate That Word), This Will Remain As Follows:
Heroes Do Not Exist." ~ myself
"Heroes are by definition people that give us hope and the feeling or illusion of comfort or safety. So in reality it would be the one person closest to us. Further insight into this would be that no one person is more closer to yourself then.... yourself. So I am my own hero, simply for making it thus far." ~ anonymous writer

In other words, once you raise someone up to the status of "hero" and they don't seem to be living up to it, it's only a harder letdown in the end. You held them so high, then they crushed your hopes and faith.

Sorry if this seems like a downer. It's just what I believe.

You dont have to believe that someone is your hero and how do you know if your going to be let down if you dont give someone the chance to live up to being a hero!Theres not one person on this earth that is perfect so you will be living your life without a hero! you cant ever call someone perfect and expect them to live up to that.Even when you look perfect up in the dictionary it doesnt have one thing saying its right. There are 12 different answers. How can you say someone isnt a hero to some other person. You cant some people actually have someone to call a hero. Im sorry that you dont have anyone in your life who can influence you to be your best and call your hero!

Thats why people have hero's because they want to feel like they are safe and protected. Some people dont have to have the closest person to them. I have one person who knows me better than myself. Theres nothing wrong with that. Sometimes I do things that I never would have thought I would do.Kristin how can you be your own hero? Your Not Perfect!

*Everything is what you beleive in you can't change your opinion and im glad you have one to share*
